Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects many children. It is characterised by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Understanding ADHD is crucial for parents to support their children effectively.
Children with ADHD may exhibit a range of symptoms, including:
We work closely with the Trafford Combined ADHD Service (TCAS) who carry out assessments for ADHD. For a referral to be made to the TCAS pathway, schools need to show evidence of the SEND plan do review process which includes details about the additional provision in place for the child and how effective this has been over a period of time.
This usually means that a child is on the SEND register and has a Pupil Profile.
For children who have a Manchester GP, referrals are made to Manchester CAMHS (The Carol Kendrick Centre)
Here are some practical strategies to help support your child:
Open communication with your child’s teachers is essential. Discuss your child’s needs and progress, and consider developing an Individual Education Plan (IEP) if necessary.
If you suspect your child may have ADHD, consider seeking help from professionals such as paediatricians, psychologists, or educational specialists. Early intervention can make a significant difference. Please always discuss this with us at school and get in touch with the school SENDCo if you have any concerns.
Children with ADHD often possess unique strengths and talents. Encourage your child to explore their interests and build resilience through positive reinforcement and support.
