School Meals

> Parents > School Meals

The cost of a school meal is £2.75, this equates to £13.75 per week. Meals are free universally for children in Reception – Year 2 and these charges only come into effect when a child enters Year 3.

Regardless what year group your child is in, meals should be ordered via School Grid in advance.. If you have been unable to place your order in time, your child will receive a jacket potato with a filling of the day and fresh fruit. Please ensure that you process your basket in order for the meal choices to go through.

The school office requires at least two school weeks’ notice if your child wishes to change from a school meal to packed lunch and visa versa.

Payments for meals are made through School Grid at the time of booking.  You will be contacted by the school office if we have not received payment from you for school dinners and in accordance with Trafford Council Best Practice, meals may be stopped if balances are outstanding. If you require additional support with paying for your child’s school meals, please contact the school office.

Free School Meals:

You may have heard in the media that Free School Meal (FSM) entitlement is changing from September 2026. Previously, once becoming eligible, children continue to receive this year after year however, from September, this will no longer universally be the case.

There will be two types of FSM status:

  • Targeted FSM – this is where a household where the child lives is in receipt of universal credit and the household annual income is less than £7400. Families who fall into this category will also become eligible for pupil premium funding (which is paid directly to the school to support your child)
  • Expanded FSM – this is where the household where the child lives is in receipt of universal credit regardless of annual income. Families who fall into this category will not become eligible for pupil premium.

Eligibility will be checked by the Department for Education (DfE) each year and parents will be notified if they remain eligible for the following academic year each September.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will continue to receive free school meals regardless of status under the universal scheme.

If you believe you may be eligible for FSM following the changes, you can apply by following the link below. Please note that you may not get an instant reply and could take a few days for you to receive the outcome.
